JOIN THIS CERTIFIED LIFESAVING COURSE RUN BY THE CYPRUS LIFESAVING FEDERATION DESIGNED FOR ALL MEDALLION CERTIFICATIONS FOR THE SEA

We will be hosting our first LIFESAVING - ALL MEDALLION course/program at Kahuna Surfhouse with the certified lifesaving instructor; Dr Anestis Vasiliou. The program aims to highlight the importance of knowledge about lifesaving. It also aims to present and cultivate/consolidate rescue techniques from the liquid element that are applied depending on the case for immediate treatment, and treatment, where possible.

This is a course that will take anyone from a beginner to a Medallion holder and progress them to their next medallion.

THEORY
Safety Rules
• History of Lifesaving
• Survival in water
• Safety rules

• Signals in and out of the water
• Ability to judge (Initiative)

First Aid
• Call for help
• Recovery position
• Breathing and Circulation (ABC)
• Sun exposure-Heatstroke
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Use of individual mask
• Cramps
• Wounds-Bleeding
• Fainting
• Suffocation
• Use of an automatic defibrillator (AED)
• Shock

PRACTICE
Part A
• Entry and exit from the water in at least three (3) different ways
• Rescue by throwing an object at a distance of 10 meters
• Swimming techniques
• Swimming with a life preserver
• Human chain
• Practical practice of two (2) methods of hooking and unhooking and two (2) methods of pulling on land
• Entering the water and swimming breaststroke at a distance of 100 meters
• Entering the water using a rescue device (e.g. rescue tube)
• Retrieving an object from a depth of 2 meters, weighing three (3) kilograms
• Entering the water using a rescue device (e.g. rescue tube)

Part B
• Swimming with clothes (shirt and pants) and removing them in the water
• Stay on the surface for one minute using hands and feet
• Float for 1.00 minutes
• Stay on the surface using hands only
• Stay afloat using feet only
• Freestyle swimming at a distance of 50 meters with the head out of the water
• Breaststroke for a distance of 50 meters with the head out of the water
• Swimming a distance of 200 meters in a time not exceeding 10 minutes
• Swimming a distance of 15 meters (diving half the distance to a depth of two (2) meters and retrieving an object weighing three (3) kilograms
• Swimming at a distance of 400 meters

Part C
• Rescuing a conscious victim from the front, without actual contact using a rescue measure, e.g. a rescue tube (The victim should be at a distance of 50 meters and the time should not exceed 3.00 minutes)
• Rescue of an unconscious victim on the surface
• Rescue from the front of a conscious victim

Part D
• Rescue by contact (The victim must be at a distance of 50 meters) The time should not exceed 3.15 minutes
• Chin towing extended arm rescue
• Cross chest rescue

Part E

• Stabilization handle
• Artificial respiration in the water using a life preserver

*Validity of Diploma: 24 months
**The test includes at least one method with actual contact and one with the use of a rescue device
